What do you do at Pulse?
Zumba, Fusion, and POP Pilates.
What’s your background in dance, fitness, or both?
I began taking dance classes since I was in 4th grade. I’ve studied jazz, tap, hiphop, modern, ballroom, and ballet. I began teaching dance in high school and I continue to do so 15 years later at Stites Performing Arts Studio. I began taking Zumba classes in 2012 and began teaching the following year.
What’s your favorite thing about Pulse?
My favorite thing about Pulse is the amazing energy. The “Pulsemagic” is real. There is some sort of amazing endorphin blast that occurs when everyone is dancing, smiling, and getting their cardio on. The energy just fills the room and it leaves you feeling good the entire rest of your day.
What’s your favorite song, class, or routine?
This is a very tough question. I love so many of the classes at PulsePDX. I of course would have to say Fusion and Zumba. I have always loved stretching and yoga so Fusion is right up my alley. It leaves me feeling so balanced, strong, and focused…. But dancing has always been my thing so Zumba has got to be my favorite.
My favorite song/routine seems to change every couple of weeks, but I still really love “Step.” It is one of the first ones that we choreographed and almost never comes out of my playlist. I love that it usually gets someone up on stage dancing with me and sharing their love for Zumba.
What’s your “guilty pleasure” (as long as it’s PG-rated)?
Can you describe your favorite memory of an experience at Pulse?
There have been so many great experiences at Pulse but I would have to say that my favorite memories involve getting to know the people of PulsePDX. I love getting to know so many wonderful people who have found this amazing place.
Lastly, how would you describe PulsePDX to someone that you know would enjoy it here?
PulsePDX is amazing. It is a magical place where working out is fun. You will be fooled into an hour of hardcore cardio and be amazed how fast the time passes. The nightclub atmosphere, the stage, the dj, the lights, the amazing teachers and the “PulseMagic” Will have you counting down the minutes till you get to come back.
Warning! It does come with some side effects such as: dancing in the grocery store when your favorite Zumba song comes on, being irritable when you are unable to make it to your PulsePDX class, getting caught dancing while sitting at your desk or driving in your car, and constantly wishing you were at PulsePDX instead of whatever else it is you are doing.
