What do you do at Pulse?
I basically burn up the dance floor and collect high fives, just like everyone else at Pulse. And I also teach Werq Dance Fitness.
What’s your background in dance, fitness, or both?
I spent one summer in high school watching VH1 all day, every day. Whenever a Michael Jackson video came on, I would quickly hit record on the VCR so I could watch it over and over and learn all of the choreography. When I went back to my dance classes that fall, my teacher asked me what the heck I did all summer because I suddenly understood how to “use my arms”.
Aside from being obsessed with Michael Jackson videos in the 90s, I have taken and taught thousands of dance and fitness classes. I am a former personal trainer and I love lifting heavy weights.
What’s your favorite thing about Pulse?
Jennifer has created a space of love, support, and joy. This was intentional and has trickled down to the teachers and the students. I know that when I walk through those doors, I can pretty much talk to anyone and they will be welcoming and warm. It’s truly magical.
What’s your favorite song, class, or routine?
Obvs, I am obsessed with Danny’s Werq classes. His energy is incredible and his kindness and soul radiate in every direction when he teaches. The worst thing about becoming an instructor is that I’ll have less of an excuse to take his classes.
What’s your “guilty pleasure” (as long as it’s PG-rated)?
I tell basically every dog I see that I love them, but I do it in a special dog voice. So, it sounds more like, “Eye low yoooo.” I know it annoys everyone around me, because dog voices are inherently annoying to everyone except the person who is doing it, but it’s my guilty pleasure and I’m going to keep doing it!
