What do you do at Pulse?
Currently I teach Deep Stretch.
What’s your background in dance, fitness, or both?
I was a not-serious gymNAST in my pre-teen years, a gymRAT in my 20’s, and when I moved to Portland in ’96, I became an avid hiker. I discovered Zumba years ago and took classes during the very early beginnings of Pulse. Yoga, strength training and Stand Up Paddle Boarding are a big part of my life currently.
In 2007 I started practicing yoga and right away was hooked. A year later I received my teaching certification. I’ve been teaching public and private classes since 2008.
What’s your favorite thing about Pulse?
The infectious good-vibe-energy, incredible community support, the variety and quality of classes, and the fantastic people – instructors, staff and students. I always, always, leave feeling happier and lighter!
What’s your favorite song, class, or routine?
Pretty much any of Jennifer’s routines – too many to name!
What’s your “guilty pleasure” (as long as it’s PG-rated)?
Neil Diamond 🙂 (But most know me as the world’s biggest Van Halen fan.)
Can you describe your favorite memory of an experience at Pulse?
My first time getting on stage with Jennifer, after being coaxed for months. It was exhilarating and now I don’t think twice about it (except when I don’t know the routine well).
Lastly, how would you describe PulsePDX to someone that you know would enjoy it here?
I’ve attempted to describe Pulse COUNTLESS times. Words can’t fully do it justice. It’s truly a one of a kind fitness experience. I say something along the lines of – it’s not a gym, no mirrors, it’s dark, lots of lights, fun music, something for everyone, and so much positive, happy endorphins floating through the place, you can practically see them. Each time I end by saying “you just have to experience it for yourself!”
