What do you do at Pulse?

Receptionist. I work at the front desk, greet everyone, check them in, answer phones, keep things organized, and do pretty much anything else that is needed.

What’s your background in dance, fitness, or both?

I started taking Zumba classes about four years ago, and fell in love with the dance style format. When my instructor moved away I started looking for new places to take Zumba classes and found Pulse online. I attended my first Zumba nightclub class with PulsePDX in August of 2011 and it was love at first dance. Then when additional classes were added I took more Zumba classes and when new formats were added (ie: willPower & Grace, Fusion, Burn, Pound, Bamboo Bodies) I started taking those and loved the strength that it added to my cardio. I regularly take Zumba, Burn, Bamboo Bodies and Pound.

What’s your favorite thing about Pulse?

Just one?! There’s so much I love about Pulse. I love the community feeling that you can’t find anywhere else, the encouragement, the support and literally no judgment, and that it’s for everyone regardless of age or fitness level. I love all of the amazing people I have met through Pulse and I love all of the classes I take.

Most of all I love that Pulse is not just the place that I work out, but that it was the catalyst for me to start a completely new health journey. I had been very unhealthy and overweight for a very long time. I tried so many different ways to lose weight but nothing worked. Then I found Pulse. The classes, the instructors and the amazing people really inspired me to look at my health in a different way. Once I changed my diet to go along with my strength and cardio classes at PulsePDX, I found the weight started dropping off. A year and a half later after much encouragement and support and many, many wonderful classes at Pulse I have lost almost eighty pounds and feel healthier, stronger and more confident than I ever have. I am so grateful to everyone at Pulse who encouraged and inspired me in my journey.

What’s your favorite song, class, or routine?

To pick one song, class or routine is impossible! I love them all! I love how different all of the classes are, and I love that all of the instructors at Pulse bring their own style and flavor to their classes, which is probably why I take so many. Zumba, Pound, Burn, Bamboo Bodies, Fusion, U-Jam….yep, I take them all and can’t get enough!

What’s your “guilty pleasure” (as long as it’s PG-rated)?

Reality TV….please don’t judge me. Amazing Race is one of my favorites.

Can you describe your favorite memory of an experience at Pulse?

Probably dancing onstage with Julio and Jennifer for the first time….it took me awhile, when I finally got up there, it was so much fun and everyone made me feel so welcome that I just wanted to do it again and again.

Lastly, how would you describe PulsePDX to someone that you know would enjoy it here?

I would tell them they have to come give it try, and that they would love the welcoming, supportive environment and the friendly fitness community we have. I would tell them that the experience at Pulse is unlike any gym or studio that they have been to and that we have some of the best instructors in Portland. But I would tell them to be careful because PulsePDX can be addictive!
