What is your PulsePDX story?
The first class I took at PulsePDX was more than 10 years ago; I had 3-year-old twin boys, a 10-year-old daughter, a chocolate labrador, 2 guinea pigs, some goldfish, and a partner who worked what felt like 80 hours a week, life was busy. A very dear friend suggested that instead of celebrating my birthday with the usual (too much) wine, I should come and try Zumba Toning with Josh instead. It was love at first class; I still remember the moves to “Titanium” and meeting Michael and Scott on the desk and thinking, where has this been all my life? I was immediately hooked, bought myself a membership, and haven’t worked out anywhere else since.
Josh moved on, and I had to expand my comfort zone to try new classes! Zumba, Dance Fitness, Burn, Werq, Low Impact, Pop Pilates, Revive, HIIT, Release and I LOVE them all, whoever is teaching, you are in for a great time. You will find me at the back of the class, maybe sometimes halfway up if everyone is really tall 🙂 I love seeing people dancing, sweating, laughing, and letting go a little. I won’t ever get tired of seeing how someone reacts to the magic of their first class at PulsePDX and I am so happy to now be a small part of this team of amazing people.
What is your work background?
It was probably me if you’ve heard someone with a British accent on the phone or at the desk. My first job was for an ad agency in London, then publishing, more advertising, and moving to Amsterdam in 1999 to work at Wieden+Kennedy on the Nike account. We moved to Portland in 2006 with our 3 year old daughter Rosie, my husband continued to work at W+K and I switched things up a little by working in construction until my XL twin belly became too much for the job site. For the last 8 years, I worked at a local Preschool, but when the school shut its doors in July, I knew that I needed more of what makes me happy in my life, and that is PulsePDX. I basically followed Jennifer around a lot after class (sorry, Jen!) until I plucked up the courage to ask if she needed any help at all behind the scenes with admin/PA work, desk duties, cleaning, slideshows, events, anything and everything that may need doing (except teaching a class 🙂 and luckily for me she said yes to the idea of a “studio mom”. I am extremely excited and proud to be part of this vibrant, inclusive community, this happy place to work out, get strong and repair.
What do you do when you aren’t at PulsePDX?
When I am not at PulsePDX I love to garden, swim, read, devour podcasts, cook, explore the beautiful countryside outside of Portland and go for long walks with my corgi, Herbert. I am also a taxi service, homework helper, spiritual guide and maid 🙂 for my now 13 year old boys.
Come and dance with me like no one is watching at the back of the class!!!
